Protect Your Leather Investment
STORING YOUR LEATHER APPAREL, THE RIGHT WAY
A leather investment is a one-time investment that can last you for years. While a leather garment can be tailored to fit you like a glove, storing it incorrectly can cause the garment to lose its shape and deform.
If you’re looking for ways to keep your garments looking as timeless and new as ever. Read on to find out what you should and shouldn’t do when caring for leather.
Step 1:
Leather can catch dust or snow, especially if you live in a cold climate. You can clean the leather fabric by dusting it with a soft cloth or using oil-based leather conditioning solvent for a more thorough cleanse. We at LeathersInn, do not recommend using perchloroethylene, a liquid solvent commonly used for dry cleaning fabrics, because of the substance’s toxic effects on our health and environment.
If home-cleaning your leather garment doesn’t cut it, consider sending your apparel to a professional who specializes in cleaning leather garments. A professional leather cleaner can remove spills and stains without causing any damage to your product.
Step 2:
LeathersInn provides a breathable bag for every garment you purchase from us. Store your leather coats/jackets on a hanger and in a ventilated area to avoid deformation of your garment. Do not fold and stack.
How To Take Care of Your Leather Garments
We understand the value your leather jacket brings to your wardrobe, and hence, we’ve compiled a list of guidelines so that you can provide your leather garments with the care it needs to keep them looking fresh and fine.
- Dust and clean with a soft cloth or brush to remove dust and other minute particles.
- If you spill something on your leather garment, dab off any excess residue with a damp cloth. Avoid using water or chemicals to clean the area as this could leave a permanent stain.
- Do not use regular household cleaning products on your leather garments.
- Semi-aniline cleaning products are often recommended for leather. If you chose to use such a product, we recommend carefully following the instructions on the packing. You can also test the product on a small area to make sure it suits your fabric.
- If you wish to get your leather coats and jackets professionally cleaned, we recommend a leather cleaning expert rather than your regular dry cleaner.
- Do not machine wash.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Do not clean with any kind of soap or detergent.
- Avoid using solvents and bleach.
- Do not expose your leather garments to sunlight for long periods. This could cause the leather to dry and wilt.
- Keep away from direct flames.
